The Gender ARC (Advanced Research Consortium on Gender, Culture and the Knowledge Society) is pleased to announce that the group is holding a GENDER InEQUALITY Conference on Friday, December 4th from 9:30 am to 6 pm in the Hardiman Research Building at NUI Galway.
Professor Pat O’Connor of the University of Limerick, an expert on gender equality, will talk about ‘Gender Inequality in Universities: The Problem is Women?’ from 1-2 pm as the first keynote speaker.
Dr Kelly Coate, Senior Lecturer at King’s College, London, will deliver the second keynote talk, titled ‘Researching Women in Higher Education: The Personal and the Political’, from 4-5 pm.
Tina-Karen Pusse and Jennifer Woods, organisers of the conference, had this to say about the event:
After a very turbulent year, it’s about time to reflect on the current situation of women, (not only) in academia, but also in other sectors of the institution. The Gender, Discourses and Identities Group of Gender ARC aims to bring about an open, inclusive discussion about strategies of empowerment and areas of challenge. The conference is free and everybody is welcome.
The rest of the schedule for the conference, which will be held from 9:30 am to 6 pm, is listed below. All talks will be in the Hardiman Building (new wing beside Library) in Seminar Room GO 10, on the ground floor, except for the two plenary talks (Pat O’Connor at 1 pm and Kelly Coate at 4 pm), which will be in the big Lecture Theatre AM250 in the nearby Arts Millennium building.
